Champions League: Barcelona vs Copenhagen

Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola gesturing during a football game. Copenhagen face Barcelona in Spain this evening in Group D - Champions LeagueBarcelona vs Copenhagen.

Barcelona, Coach Pep Guardiola
“I sense a difficult match… mainly because of the quality of the opposition (Copenhagen). They are very physical and very well prepared, so we’ll need all our mental strength. Very little has been said about Copenhagen, but they have six out of six in the Champions League. I’m convinced that if we aren’t careful, brilliant, and fast, their powerful strategy could make things very difficult for us.

“This would mean an important step towards the next round (of the UEFA Champions League). It is a vital match, and it’s one of those that can determine your future. The fans (of FC Barcelona) can be assured that the players will keep responding as they (always) do.

“(Again, Copenhagen are) a well organized, academic team, they are well organized in defense and work well down the wings. Their manager (Ståle Solbakken) has done a good job and he’s got a lot out of this team. They can beat us here (at the Camp Nou) and anywhere.

Copenhagen, Coach Ståle Solbakken
“This is really big for the team; my players are in great shape, and we know they (FC Barcelona) will play at a great tempo in their home ground. It will be a great experience for our players and if it is going to be, then it is going to be tomorrow. If we are really going to beat Barcelona, it will be with this team - we have some players who are daft enough to think we can win it.

“We know that we will be forced to sit back here, but no matter what, we must protect our goal. We hope to have a compact team, and in a game like this you have two options: sit deep or play your normal game. We will choose to play our normal way, and if we get hammered, we will learn much from the game in preparation for the PARKEN match in fourteen days time.
